Currently the closest the Music City Star (Nashville's new commuter train) gets to Franklin is downtown Nashville (Riverfront Park).
Good news though...
Plans are in the works for an extension to the train's route, with stops in Brentwood and Franklin!
"Four other corridors are ultimately planned, resulting in a 145-mile network. Proposed corridors include the Northeast Corridor, serving the communities of Gallatin and Hendersonville; the Southeast Corridor, with service to Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and LaVergne; the South Corridor, covering the communities of Franklin and Brentwood; and the West Corridor, serving Kingston Springs and Bellevue."

Little-Known Facts About Nashville's Commuter Train:
The Music City Star is a a single-track line with 6 train stations: Lebanon, Martha, Mt. Juliet, Hermitage, Donelson, and Nashville's Riverfront Park. From each of the stations, there are trolleys or commuter busses that will take you directly to your final destination.
The project began in November 2004.
At 32 miles long, they say that "this rail project is about as bare-bones as they come (about $1.2 million per mile)".
It was initially referred to as the "East Corridor Alignment" because it heads almost due east from Nashville all the way to Lebanon -- practically parallel to I-40.
According to engineer Rob Corriveau, "it takes a mile to stop when we're going full speed."
Here's a summary of the train's first day of service.
