Franklin was under the gun through a series of very bad thunderstorms, hail storms, and tornadoes from about 4pm until well after midnight on Friday, April 7, 2006. When all was said and done, some 35 tornadoes had touched down...

Ever since we moved to Tennessee, one thing that strikes us as funny is the number of 'snow days' that school-age kids get each year... and even the number of days that school is canceled due to RAIN -- in preparation for subsequent flooding. They tend to cancel school the night before, based on the premise that it's going to snow, rain, or sleet, rather than on actual precipitation.

Tennessee's roadside assisted program is called 'HELP' and features lime yellow colored trucks which roam the major roadways assisting stranded motorists and facilitating traffic flow after major and minor accidents. In Nashville, the trucks are imprinted with the words 'Highway Incident Response Unit' - HIRU.
