A Military Presence In Nashville?

An army truck in Nashville. Maybe it's just because I went to my nephew's Boot Camp graduation last weekend that "military" things are more noticeable to me now... I don't know.

But, something struck me as odd when I saw this OLD-timey Army truck passing through downtown Nashville -- right past the Capitol Building -- yesterday during rush hour.

Something about this throw-back military truck driving past a shiny new Mercedez Benz car pulling out of the State Capitol, followed by a beefy new Nissan Ridgeline pickup truck -- with all its slick edges and sleek curves -- and the mass-transit city bus loaded with downtown workers just made this a funny sight to me:

Add to this the oddity that it was a fairly young female driver (wearing casual military diggs), and it just seemed like something I'd be likely to see in some other country... not here!

The headquarters the Tennessee National Guard jsut south of town, the Air National Guard at the airport, the Army National Guard in nearby Symrna, the Army and Marine Corp Reserve centers in West Nashville and the Navel Reserve Center at Shelby park, seeing a military vehicle on the streets of our city is rare but not an uncommon site. I've lived here since 1956 and travel back and forth across Davidson county constently in my work. The only thing that's different is the model vehicle. The one picture is a newer late model utility truck. Stop drinking the kool-aid. Relax.

this is actually, or it looks like it is, the newer style US military truck. Replaces the deuce and a half. I'd have to see the front end, but it sure looks like it. With Ft. Campbell not too awfully far from Nashville it could be from there. Or Tn Nat'l guard.
